Ingredients

1 lb dry navy beans

0.5 lb bacon
cubed

0.5 cp brown sugar

2 Tbsp tomato paste

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

2 Tbsp molasses

3 cps chicken stock

1 Tbsp garlic powder

1 Tbsp onion powder

2 tsp smoked paprika

2 Tbsp chipotle chili powder
or dark chili powder

1 Tbsp mustard powder

0.25 cp bbq seasoning
optional

0.5 cp bbq sauce
optional

2 oz whiskey
optional
Instructions
Step 1
Rinse and sort beans
Step 2
Place in a large pot with 1 gallon of generously salted water
Step 3
Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 4 hours
Step 4
Drain, lightly rinse and set beans aside
Step 5
Render and crisp bacon
Step 6
In this order add and mix in completely- Brown sugar, tomato paste, molasses, dry seasonings (Less mustard powder), apple cider vinegar and finally remove from heat and add whiskey.
Step 7
Return to low heat and simmer 4-5 minutes to cook off alcohol
Step 8
Add optional bbq sauce and remove from heat
Step 9
Crockpot/ slow cooker/ oven
Step 10
In your preferred cooking vessel, add chicken stock, mustard powder and prepared sauce. Stir to combine.
Step 11
Carefully add beans and cook covered 4-5 hours at 250 degrees. (Low/ Medium on most crockpots-slow cookers)
Step 12
Stir regularly, season with salt and pepper as needed once finished.

*You can add more liquid as needed while cooking. Some beans absorb more moisture than others*
